Beginner Relief Printing
Learn the basics of carving and relief printing
- Sundays, Feb 16th + 23rd, 2 - 6pm
- Sundays, May 17 + 24, 2-6pm
This workshop will cover the basics of carving and printing relief blocks. Students will have the choice to work on wood or linoleum for their project, and will explore reductive, multi-color and single color printing. The workshop will include both, hand printing as well as press operation. In addition to the block, students will also have a chance to experiment printing with alternative surfaces and found materials through the collagraph process.
Instructor: Sara Inacio
Sara Inacio is a printmaker and socially engaged artist based in Providence, RI. Born in Ipatinga, Brazil, Sara immigrated to the United States at the age of 9. She received a Bachelors of Fine Arts in printmaking with a public engagement minor from Maine College of Art in 2017. Sara has shown her work in various exhibitions and events in Maine, Rhode Island, Massachusetts and New York. She has participated in both international and national artist residencies including Art Farm in Marquette, Nebraska, and Green Olive Arts in Tetouan, Morocco.
Through her work Sara uses primarily animal imagery to explore our journey and impact in a world made of light and dark, and the experience of home and transience. She works in a variety of printmaking processes, sculpture and installation to create spaces and atmospheres that provide an immersive experience for the viewer. In her socially engaged projects, Sara explores themes of empathy, community and spirituality through interactive installations and dialogues. She has worked on various collaborative projects, both independently and through the Ears and Hands Collective, which she co-founded in 2017.

- Linoleum or woodblock
- Oil-based inks

- Newsprint and proofing paper

- Paper and/or fabric to print on
Location and Parking
The AS220 Community Printshop is located at the Mercantile at 131 Washington Street Providence, Rhode Island on the 1st and 2nd floors. The shop's entrance is located at the back of the building on Lucie Way (Martha Street on GPS and computers); the shop's double doors are at the Northwest corner of the building. There is 2 hour metered on street parking available, bring your quarters. We are also located near a parking garage with entry on Washington Street, look for the big blue parking sign.
Important Class Policies
Please be respectful of the short time you and the other participants have to learn, and arrive on time. If you are more than half an hour late we will not be able to teach you what you signed up for. Plan ahead, it always takes time to find on street parking.
To cancel your reservation, you must email firstname.lastname@example.org at least two weeks in advance, or risk losing your payment.
CANCELLATION OF CLASSES
If minimum number is not met in class enrollment, the teacher may opt to cancel class. If this is the case, we will give a full refund of class payment and first choice to enroll in future classes. We will attempt to give as much notice as possible.
